We inter­pret space as a play­ing field for fan­ta­sy and crea­ti­vi­ty. We give envi­ron­ments a dis­tinc­tive note that makes you want to dis­co­ver them with all your sen­ses.

From ana­ly­sis through stra­te­gy to mea­ning­ful design, our inter­di­sci­pli­na­ry team uses its expe­ri­ence and life­b­lood to trans­la­te your visi­ons into rea­li­ty. To do this, our team of archi­tec­ts, inte­rior desi­gners, com­mu­ni­ca­ti­ons and pro­duct desi­gners, copy­wri­ters, mar­ke­ting stra­te­gists and phi­lo­so­phers work clo­se­ly tog­e­ther to deve­lop uni­que solu­ti­ons. You’ll find us high up on the Geh­ren­berg moun­tain, in the beau­ti­ful land­s­cape sur­roun­ding Lake Con­stan­ce – this is the home of ate­lier 522. Roman­ti­cal­ly con­cea­led in the hay­lofts of the old barn, stee­ped in histo­ry, reve­aling a num­ber of anchor points from the past. Our office pro­vi­des us with valu­able space to give free rein to our crea­ti­ve thin­king. A tru­ly magi­cal place that could hard­ly be more authen­tic or inspi­ring.

Our ele­ment is the aes­the­tics of encoun­ter. Whe­re the beau­ty of calm is reflec­ted, that’s whe­re we’­re at home.

We set our sights on achie­ving the natu­ral balan­ce bet­ween inti­ma­cy and space. Above the water, per­cep­ti­b­ly clo­se to it or direc­t­ly on the sur­face. The 50 crea­ti­ves at Lake Con­stan­ce design with empa­thy and atten­ti­on to detail to pro­du­ce things that are worth remem­be­ring.

Memo­ries of the future

Pain­ting ima­gi­na­ry cast­les, blo­wing bub­bles and lots of sto­ry­tel­ling. Anyo­ne viewing the world through children’s eyes has the poten­ti­al to chan­ge it, both crea­tively and sustainab­ly.

And becau­se we can learn so much from child­ren, we wan­ted to give some­thing back. To them and their par­ents, who pas­sio­na­te­ly con­tri­bu­te to ate­lier 522’s suc­cess. So we crea­ted “Knirps­gar­ten” for our child­ren, their own litt­le king­dom in the form of a lar­ge play­ground that allows them to expe­ri­ence the world around them. An indi­vi­du­al and sup­por­ti­ve envi­ron­ment that bes­tows safe­ty, affec­tion and con­fi­dence, while pro­vi­ding a sen­se of secu­ri­ty.

“Clear the sta­ge …!” is pas­sé. Today, the­re is no noi­se of flou­rish, bal­ly­hoo and curtain drop. The sta­ging needs to catch the eye almost inci­dent­al­ly .

The uni­corn in the clea­ring, the litt­le wis­hing table always decked with the finest food and wine, a giant would also do for a chan­ge. We are all fami­li­ar with the three essen­ti­al parts of a fai­ry tale: ama­ze­ment, wis­hes, action – as much as pos­si­ble, as exci­ting as pos­si­ble. That’s why we build sta­ges and tell sto­riesthat stay in your mind becau­se they are worth remem­be­ring.

What would the world look like if ever­ything was only prac­ti­cal and logi­cal? Would the­re still be room for sweets and mer­ry-go-rounds in this world? Don’t we all want to eat more ice cream and less spi­n­ach? The balan­cing act bet­ween ima­gi­na­ti­on and func­tio­n­a­li­ty, that is our uni­ver­se. To do so, we would fly to the moon and back with you.
