Rupprecht Grammar School

Orientation with a system

A new building brings movement to the school. New routes, new rooms, new possibilities. To ensure that students, teachers and visitors not only arrive, but also find their way intuitively, we have developed a signage concept that provides orientation without being intrusive. Clear, reduced and focussed on the essentials. A visual language that guides without directing.

Reduction as a principle.
Clarity as a goal.

Everyday school life is dynamic. That’s why you need a signage system that grows with you – with the pupils, teachers and everyone who moves through the building every day. Our answer: purely typographic signage that blends organically into the architecture. No superfluous graphic elements, no visual sensory overload. Instead, clear lettering, unambiguous messages and a restrained aesthetic.

“Signalling is not a detail, but a key factor for functioning educational spaces.”

Marius Riether, Designer

Colours as orientation

Each learning building has its own colour. Three shades of petrol for the school areas, yellow for the sports area, a fusion of all shades in the underground car park. Colours not as decoration, but as signposts. Materials with character: wall colour and metal instead of short-lived plastic solutions. Durable, sustainable, in keeping with the architectural language of the building.

Signalling that understands the room

Orientation begins at the façade: lettering that blends in with the materials and colours of the architecture. It continues with the overview of the floors – well thought-out, simple, with a special focus on the transitions between the buildings. Glass panelling sets accents: it conveys the basic educational values of the school and provides protection at the same time.

And then there’s the guidance system: from the outdoor area to the neuralgic orientation points to the individual rooms – a continuous narrative that guides the visitor intuitively.

Learning centre concept meets signage

The Rupprecht-Gymnasium is based on the learning house principle: small, manageable units that promote collaborative learning. Our guidance system supports this approach. It creates clear structures that lend identity without setting rigid boundaries. Orientation for those who are new. A matter of course for those who stay.

More than just a guidance system

Schools are changing. With increasing pupil numbers, new learning concepts and the challenge of creating flexible and sustainable spaces. Our signage is part of this development. It gives direction without dictating. It accompanies without overburdening. A design that not only structures spaces, but also creates identity. A system that remains, even if everything else changes.
