retail design

With a retail space of almost 10,000 m² spread over seven floors, Engelhorn Sports in Square N5 in Mannheim is one of the largest sports stores in Europe. We have redesigned and revamped three floors of the sports store. In addition to the design, Engelhorn Sports is also breaking new ground where the customer experience is concerned.


The themed sports areas tempt customers in with exciting product displays, the atmosphere is spacious and welcoming, and the overall customer experience is second to none. Most notably, we removed several product display walls and room dividers on the top two floors and boldly opened up the building to daylight.


In addition, there are far more product displays for the customers to see than ever before. The mix of materials is a key creative tool. The Football and Urban Lifestyle departments on the ground floor are showcased between concrete and metal grids. The displays here are characterised by tasteful, minimalist elements, which are seized upon in stylish installations and direct the focus on the bare essentials: the latest street styles and the vast selection of trainers. Yoga, running or fitness? On the first floor, vast areas that are flooded with light provide sporty women with an unrivalled shopping experience. White ash, cork and light and airy textiles provide a sensual contrast to the sporty displays on free-standing shelves. The design is more angular and masculine on the second floor. The Men’s World of Sports has been painted in shades of black and grey. Surrounded by concrete, maritime pine and coarse ropes, male sports fans will not only find the largest selection of trackers and wearables in the entire Rhine-Neckar metropolitan area, they’ll also find everything to satisfy their fitness, running and swimwear needs.


Other highlights include a suspended display area and neon lights that help customers to find their way around the store. Changes like this take courage and we’re therefore all the more delighted that the client trusted us to take an unconventional approach.
